Scottsdale properties tend to be larger than the East Valley average, with more extensive planting and considerably longer irrigation runs. That shifts the problem set. On a small lot, a marginal pressure situation still more or less works. Stretch the same system across a large property with long drip laterals and the plants at the far end of every run are the first to suffer, and they suffer quietly.
The result is a pattern we see constantly in Scottsdale: a yard where everything close to the valve manifold looks excellent and everything at the perimeter is thin, stressed or dying. It reads like a plant health problem. It is a pressure and flow problem.
Scottsdale has a great deal of well-established desert landscaping — large mesquite and palo verde, mature agave and cactus, olive trees, established citrus. Almost none of it is being watered the way it was when it went in, because a tree's root zone spreads outward as it grows and the emitters do not move with it.
A mature tree still watered by the two emitters installed at planting is receiving water in the wrong place entirely. The fix is not more run time, which just pushes water past the roots into the ground. It is emitters relocated and added out toward the canopy edge where the feeder roots actually are.
